I was happy to hear that Bob Benjamin and his "partner"  Roll Eyes Tom St.John were unsuccessful in their bid to get the J.J. Newberry building. I think Tom has had plenty of opportunities to "do something" with this building already. As for Benjamin, he has been buying up the buildings on main street for a while now and while he may be keeping them in better repair than the cult center did, THEY ARE STILL VACANT. He has had opportunity to sell the bank, which he bought up after it was mentioned as a good place for the museum, but he wanted much, much more for the building (still standing as he bought it) than he paid for it. He has pretty much already shut down our main street with the exception of those who owned their own buildings and mostly those MAGIC friendly. In my opinion, he is the largest roadblock to downtown revitalization- and he doesn't even live in this state!!!
Hooray for our Town Council & Town Manager for making a move towards having a say in the destiny of our town and its revitalization.

Let's not forget that he's very likely a front for someone else.

It's good that the town has the power over this one.  They can make sure that whoever buys it has to do something with it.........didn't they do that to the building across from what used to be the Fruit store?  I know they tore it down, but don't the people who bought it have a period of time to do something with it, or it goes back?

Or is leaving it an empty space ok?

tsk tsk tsk... shame that your true colors showing through.

Let's not have anyone who is currently a tax payer, who pays his taxes be allowed to buy more... this IS a free country the last time I checked... just because he has the means and you do not, does not mean you have to gloat... he at least keeps his buildings mowed, cleaned up and pays his taxes!

The poster who hate everyone on here should be up in arms over this purchase!!
They say the town wasted money already by giving to the KCC, yet embrace the Town wasting another $40,000 to keep it off the tax rolls!
Where is the rationale for this thinking?

Buying up the entire main street and blocking any sort of downtown revitalization or progress is not something I can admire- even if they pay their taxes. But, I'm sure mole2 finds it all very refreshing.  Roll Eyes Bob Benjamin has done nothing good for this town by nearly closing down the downtown.

laugh laugh Good question, Ken.  Wink  laugh

Ironic the one gloating about his predicted failure of the TOWN's Historical Society failing cries about people "gloating" that Benjamin failed to buy another building.
But, some find all the empty buildings without businesses "refreshing"... Roll Eyes
I have to laugh even harder at the comments about "a free country"  laugh laugh
do you mean "free" as long as you agree with MAGIC and follow Polstein's agenda?  Shocked You know, Matt doesn't like anyone to be allowed to say or do anything that he doesn't have control of. Guess this means we can expect to see more tantrums on the council.  Roll Eyes  Smiley

Matt Polstein believes strongly that everyone should have the right to crawl up his butt or leave and, sadly enough, there are a few people who feel honored to do so.
